Nigel Benn has scheduled a press conference for this Thursday, seemingly to announce an astonishing comeback fight.
The 55-year-old legend of British boxing has declared on social media that he would be returning to the sport, though this was initially treated with some scepticism.
Now however, it is starting to feel very real with a press release sent out inviting media to attend a presser at which Benn will “make a major announcement relating to his future career.”
It appears the ‘Dark Destroyer’ will be licenced by the British and Irish Boxing Authority (BIBA) rather than the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).
According to the BIBA website, Benn will be back in a light-heavyweight contest on November 23 in Birmingham.
While there have been rumours which suggested the opponent could be Sakio Bika, this is yet to be solidly confirmed.
Fellow BIBA licenced fighter Tommy Jacobs is set to be on the undercard and revealed some details in an interview.
Jacobs told iFL TV: “Nigel Benn’s having a comeback fight and he’s fighting on November 23 at what used to be the NEC in Birmingham.
“I’m on the undercard – the main thing I’m not allowed to say is who Nigel Benn’s opponent is for obvious reasons.
“My opponent has been agreed, I’ve got a really, really exciting fight… I’m gonna be fighting Ricardo Mayorga.”
