FINDLAY, Ohio — Sophomore Brandon Lucas and senior Gage Branson both placed as the Bellarmine University wrestling team competed Saturday in the Findlay Open.

Lucas (125) placed fifth after posting a 5-1 record. Branson (149) also registered a 5-1 record and placed sixth. The Knights duo qualified for the NCAA Championships last season.

Freshman Sam Glassco (141), freshman Devan Hendricks (157) and junior Clayton Catanzarite (157) collected two wins apiece. Freshman Zach Larue (141), senior Andy Dobben (174), sophomore Joshua Craig (174) and sophomore Charlie Cadell (184) notched one win apiece.

“A lot of Division I guys entered the tournament — 51 from eight different teams — and there were also six of the top 25 DII teams here,” Knights Coach Spencer Adams said. “It was a good tournament and the guys battled tough. We have been improving each week, but the competition has also gotten tougher each week. I can definitely tell a big improvement in the team from the first tournament to now.”

Bellarmine will host Urbana in a dual at 6 p.m. (ET) Thursday in Knights Hall.
