Ok, Christmas Day isn’t quite here yet, but it’s never too early to think about the Boxing Day sales is it? By the time 26th December rolls around, the kids will be driving you mad with all their new noisy toys, Uncle Trevor will be snoring away in the corner, you’ll have demolished the entire contents of the Quality Street tin and you’ll want an excuse to drag yourself off the sofa and indulge in some retail therapy. Tell us it’s not just us that feels like that…

Boxing Day is traditionally the day when all the big retailers start their post-Christmas sales, offering big discounts on everything from gadgets and kitchen appliances to furniture and homeware.

Whether you’re after a great-value sofa for family film afternoons (and a new TV to watch the films on), hi-tech appliances for your 2020 kitchen makeover, some new bedding for an easy room makeover, or even cut-price Christmas cards and wrapping paper in preparation for Christmas 2020 (hats off to you if you’re that organised), there are plenty of deals to be had.

So whether you prefer queueing outside the shop from 6am on Boxing Day to get the best in-store-only deals (we’re thinking of you here, Next shoppers) or shopping from the comfort of your own sofa (FAR more alluring), scroll down for the lowdown on what deals to expect.

How long do the Boxing Day sales last for?

It varies from retailer to retailer, but you can expect the best deals to be on offer from Boxing Day through to the first week of the New Year as stores look to sell off all of their old stock before new ranges come into store. Our advice? If you already have something in mind that you want to get in the sales, make sure you get in early before the best deals are gone.

How to get a great deal in the Boxing Day sales

It pays to do your research before the big day so you’ve got an idea of what you want to buy. It’s easy to get drawn into buying things you don’t necessarily need when you see big savings advertised and you can quickly overspend. It’s always best to set yourself a realistic budget for the sales – just try your best to stick to it!
