Carl Froch has revealed Tony Bellew was the only fighter that was able to dump him on the floor in sparring during his boxing career.

The boxing great retired with just two losses on his pro record, having won multiple world titles at super-middleweight.

Bellew too was a world champion during his career and Froch detailed how he used to have tear-ups with his fellow Brit during training camps.

‘Me and Tony Bellew used to spar, we used to have some heavy spar,’ Froch said on his ‘Froch on Fighting’ podcast.

‘He’s the only person to put me over in sparring, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned that before. I think it’s in my book, I’m not bothered.

‘He put me down on the floor. He caught me with a right hand, sweet on the chin as I was backing him up thinking I was going to chin him.

‘He timed me and caught me with a right hand, he could punch Tony Bellew. And I got off the floor and said “My knee went there, a bit funny”.

‘I’d had knee surgery before. Said my knee went wobbling, when it didn’t. I tried to get him back and I hit him hard. He felt the power.

‘We used to have some spars, heavy spars.’

Bellew and Froch has both gone into commentary and punditry work since hanging up their gloves.

The pair appear good friends on TV and Froch says there was never any hard feelings after gruelling spars.

‘I can remember one day Rob McCracken shut the blinds because people used to look through the glass. All the amateurs would be out of the gym and it would me, Rob McCracken, Tony Bellew and one or two of his trainers. That was it,’ he said.

’At the end of it we’d sit down on the edge of the ring and I’d say, ‘You’re a fucking arsehole, you are”, and he’d say “You are [as well]”.’
