Burutlek Petchyindee Academy faces Thway Thit Win Hlaing at WLC: Fearless Tigers

The script for a debut in a brand-new martial art could not have gone any better for Burutlek Petchyindee Academy. After more than 100 fights in Muay Thai, the veteran was offered an opportunity to compete in the world’s largest bare knuckle fighting organization, World Lethwei Championship, last May.

His opponent was Burmese national champion Kyaw Zin Latt, but he looked an absolute class apart right from the start. Burutlek’s striking translated perfectly to lethwei, where each individual strike has more value as knockouts are encouraged. As the first round was drawing to a close, Burutlek finished his opponent off with a perfectly timed left hook that was so powerful that Kyaw Zin Latt did not even try to answer the ten-count.

That bout was a memorable one for Burutlek as he reflected on it. He explained, “We were in the Kayin State, a region in Myanmar renowned for their lethwei fighters. To be able to beat one of the top guys from the region and showcase myself on a global stage, that was an amazing experience.”

That was a resounding victory for Burutlek, and now he looks to continue that streak when he takes on Myanmar superstar Thway Thit Win Hlaing in the main event of WLC: Fearless Tigers held on October 4 at Mandalar Thiri Indoor Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar. Thway Thit Win Hlaing would be a formidable opponent, having won three times already in the World Lethwei Championship ring. When asked about the match, Burutlek is impressed but not intimidated.

He shared, “I think I have what it takes to beat him. It is a tough challenge and he is a huge star in Myanmar. He is very technical but I have worked hard with my team at Petchyindee Academy to figure him out.”

The current champion at Light Middleweight is Ukraine’s Sasha Moisa, and whoever emerges from this contest will set themselves up to challenge for the title in the near future.
