Bushido Judo Club’s 50th Anniversary was recently celebrated with 85 guests at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club main function room. This occasion was celebrated with some of the many people that Bushido Judo Club has taught over the years. Guests from overseas and many from interstate gathered to recognise Bushido’s achievements and to pay respect to Bruce Fagan for the impact that Bushido Judo Club has had on their lives. The room was filled with a gathering of high achieving Judoka that is rarely seen. The event was even featured on the World Judo Federations website. Among those who attended were Bushido Judo Club’s 1988 Olympic Gold medallist Sue Williams and Olympic Bronze medallist Julie Reardon, and Bushido International and Australian Champions representatives. Special guests included the Vice-President of the World Judo Federation as well as the Australian Kodokan Judo Association President. The night ran smoothly with an arrangement of presentations, guest speakers and video footage from yesteryear up until today. Gareth Ward gave a speech which likened politics to judo which was quite clever. Bushido Judo Club was founded by Bruce Fagan 50 years ago. Almost straight away Australian Judo records would tumble as new heights were reached. Bushido immediately found itself as a force to be reckoned with in NSW. Before long Bushido became dominant on the national scene and would represent Australia in many international championships around the world. The night was an incredible success with many guests impressed with the event, the facility at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club, the anniversary cake donated by the local Shoalhaven Heads Bakery, and the Mountain Side Resort at Shoalhaven Heads which provided discount accommodation to guests. Keen to enjoy the beautiful Shoalhaven surroundings, many of the visiting guests toured our famous beaches and wineries whilst staying. The event was a win for everyone. Shoalhaven is the home of Bushido Judo Club which has a rich history of achievements. Commitment and dedication has made Bushido Judo Club one of the most successful judo clubs in Australia. We are a diverse judo club accommodating members from beginner all the way to international competitors.
