COLFAX — Three Tigerhawks were 5-0 and two others won four times as Colfax-Mingo’s wrestling team placed second in its home dual tournament on Saturday.
Colfax-Mingo won its pool with victories over Des Moines North/Hoover (42-30), HLV (42-21), Newton’s JV (54-6) and Treynor (45-24). In the championship match, the Tigerhawks lost 45-30 to Knoxville, which won its pool and was 5-0 for the day.
Lynnville-Sully joined Newton’s JV as other Jasper County teams in the field. L-S opened the day with a 31-30 criteria win over North Mahaska.
The Hawks finished eighth in the 10-team field. Newton’s JV had only five wrestlers and finished 10th.
Treynor was third, Pleasantville finished fourth, Council Bluffs Lincoln took fifth, Des Moines North/Hoover ended up sixth and HLV was seventh. North Mahaska’s only win on the day was against Newton’s JV in the ninth-place match.
Hunter Green was 5-0 with four pins on the day at 132 pounds for C-M. Trystin Ross was 5-0 with three pins and two forfeits and Cyden Fitch was 5-0 with two pins and three forfeits.
Jakob Chapman finished 4-1 with two pins and two forfeits and Hunter Stevens was 4-1 with two pins. Noah Strohmeyer, Kenneth Craig and Shane Aikin all won three matches.
After the L-S win over North Mahaska, the Hawks lost 54-24 to Pleasantville, 59-18 to CB Lincoln and 54-24 to Knoxville. In the seventh-place match, HLV defeated the Hawks 30-18.
Gabe Wearmouth was 5-0 for the day for the Hawks at 160. He won three times by fall. Elizabeth Elliott, Gentry Walston, C.J. Snethen and Lane Mathis were all 3-2.
The Hawks were still short-handed as four wrestlers were out due to illness.
The Newton JV lost 35-12 to HLV, 60-6 to Treynor, 34-16 to Des Moines North/Hoover and 54-6 to Colfax-Mingo. In the placing match, North Mahaska defeated Newton 35-12.
Gabriel Hoen was 3-2 on the day at 220. Isaak Smith (285) and Allister Holdefer (152) were both 2-3.
