February is here — can you believe it?! That means the Cheboygan Comic Expo is also here. So many fun and entertaining events, including workshops, games and movies will be taking place between Feb. 4-25. There will be a gallery full of superheroes, from Batman to Spider-man, from the Hulk to Thor, plus Star Wars and Doctor Who. There will be lots to enjoy for both DC and Marvel fans. The gallery, open during library hours, will be a self-guided tour through the world of heroic moments and epic adventures.

Ready to learn how to “Defend Like a Superhero?” Master Jamie from the Cheboygan Martial Arts School will be holding both a youth and adult workshop to teach some self-defense basics. These classes will take place on Thursday Feb. 13. The youth class is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the adult class is from 6-7 p.m. All classes are free, but sign-up is requested. To sign up, just call or stop by the Library’s circulation desk, 627-2381.

Master Jamie is also offering a “Spider-man” Rappelling class as part of the Cheboygan Comic Expo. This class will take place on Saturday Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the old junior high gym located at 504 Division St., just a few blocks from the Cheboygan Area Public Library. This class is also free, and sign-up is requested.

Hey teens — are you ready for some old-school gaming? Come hang out and play any one of hundreds of arcade games featured on a retro Atari and Legends Flashback game consoles. Our “Old-School” Arcade Night will be taking place on Friday, Feb. 14 from 4-8 p.m. — on Valentine’s Day, so be sure to join us to show your love for old-school arcade games and all the Comic Expo fun. This game night is free and open to all, but we want to provide some snacks and prizes, so please sign-up if you can so we know what to get.

Calling all artists. The Cheboygan Comic Expo will be hosting a “Science of a Superhero” drawing workshop with Marvel comic artist/illustrator Jerry DeCaire Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. In this workshop, Jerry will share some tips and tricks of comic art and will explain how he uses math and science to help him illustrate superheroes like Thor, the X-Men, Wolverine, Nick Fury and others. This workshop is free and open to all ages and a sketchbook will be provided. Sign-up is requested.

Ready to take the Comic Expo outside? Join us for the “Build a Snow-Hero” snowman building contest. This event will be taking place in the Children’s Garden on the west side of the Library on Saturday Feb. 22 at noon. Supplies to dress the snowman will be provided and there will be prizes for the best Snow-Heroes. This event is free and open to all ages but sign up is requested. Snacks and hot chocolate will be provided indoors after the event.

Have you seen the movie “Pixels,” where arcade characters explode into real life and an unlikely band of 80s arcade game champions must save the world? “Pixels” will be playing on Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. How about the new “Pokemon: Detective Pikachu” movie where Pokemon characters co-exist with humans and Pikachu is a wise-cracking super-sleuth that teams up with Tim to help him find out what happened to his dad? “Detective Pikachu” will be playing on Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. Ready for a double feature? “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Wreck-It Ralph Breaks the Internet” will have the family laughing with the candy-wrapped racing and heroic antics of many classic arcade characters. “Wreck-It Ralph” movies will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 20. All four movies are family-friendly and entertaining. Popcorn and drinks will be served during the movies. Bring your friends, bring your kiddos and enjoy a free movie-night out.

But there is still more. There will be board games set up that you can play anytime with your family and friends during library hours. Come play Dominoes, Settlers of Catan, Battleship, Bananagrams, Dungeons & Dragons, Exploding Kittens, Monopoly and more. There are games for all ages and playing levels. Plus, there will be a Life-Size Pac-Man maze where you and a team of ghosts can compete. It will be fun for the whole family.

Be sure to visit the Library to grab a schedule of events and make plans with your friends to have some fun at the Library. Schedules are available now in the lobby.
