OAK PARK, Mich. (WWJ) — Fire crews are on the scene of a blaze at a “light industrial” area in Oak Park Tuesday night.

The building in the area of Coolidge Highway and Northend Avenue caught fire Tuesday and spread quickly.

Chris Huff, owner of Performance 80 fitness studio located in the building, told WWJ that his studio was severely damaged in the fire.

Huff said he was beginning a cardio kickboxing class around 7 p.m. when he and others began to smell smoke.

“I walked out my big doors and saw two buildings down from me, smoke coming out,” Huff said. “And it was gradually increasing, so we called 9-1-1. As the fire increased, each fire started collapsing.”

Huff said he believes his business may be a total loss and says as many as five others may have the same fate.

Black smoke could be seen miles away. The cause of the fire is unclear.

No injuries have been reported.
