A strawweight title eliminator is all but set for the main event of UFC Fight Night 161 on October 12th.
With both parties verbally agreeing to the bout per an original report by ESPN, former 115 lbs champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will return to the division where she became champion to take on Michelle Waterson in a five-round affair.
Jedrzejczyk (15-3) moved up in weight class in her last outing to contest for the vacant flyweight title against Valentina Shevchenko. The Polish fighter would lose a unanimous decision to Shevchenko at UFC 231, the third loss of her last four fights. Jedrzejczyk had gone unbeaten in her first 14 professional bouts, including winning and defending her UFC title five times, but back-to-back losses to Rose Namajunas began a recent spell of poor form.
Waterson (17-6) meanwhile is currently on a three-fight winning streak dating back to April 2018. ‘The Karate Hottie’ has successfully defeated Cortney Casey, Felice Herrig and Karolina Kowalkiewicz via decision and as a result currently sits as the #7 ranked strawweight contender.
