Kiwi heavyweight Junior Fa has extended his unbeaten streak with a unanimous decision victory over Devin Vargas in Salt Lake City.
Despite dropping the American twice with stinging body shots, Fa wasn’t able to secure the stoppage as Vargas (21-6), a former Olympian, showed his experience to survive the full 10 rounds.
But there was no doubt whose hand would be raised, with the judges scoring the bout 97-91, 99-89, and 100-88 all in Fa’s favour.
The win improved the 30-year-old’s record to a perfect 19-0 and could have him knocking on the door of the top five of the WBO rankings.
Meanwhile, Fa’s City Kickboxing teammate Hemi Ahio needed less than two rounds to record the 16th-straight win of his career.
Ahio lived up to his nickname ‘The Heat’, flooring American Justin Tufte three times before the referee stepped in at 1:10 of the second round.
